About the trip
A trip for those looking forward to visit an historic location that is imprinted in a 20 Rupee Note, Mount Harriet. This is the same location from where the view seen behind a 20 Rupee Note was clicked. Pass through curvy mountain roads to reach Mount Harriet, the second highest peak of the Andaman Islands. Later visit Chidiatapu.
Mount Harriet is the highest peak in the South Andaman archipelago and is named after Harriet Tytler, the second wife of Robert Christopher Tytler, a British soldier, naturalist and photographer, who was appointed officiating Superintendent of the Convict Settlement at Port Blair in the Andamans from April 1862 to February 1864. Mount Harriet, stationed at 55 km by road and 15 km by ferry from Port Blair. Its natural charm and beauty attracts a lot of visitors. The natural flora and fauna could not be matched. The greenery everywhere provides you immense feel that you are in a deep forest. One can have a glimpse of different kinds of birds from this point. From the top of the peak, one can get a magnificent view of the Port Blair city, the Ross Island and the Havelock Island.
Chidia tapu is 30 KM from main city; this place is famous for sunset view and for bird watching. Varieties of birds visit this place. The road passes through forest and small hills up to the Chidia tapu. From Port Blair, the journey would take around one hour to reach Chidia tapu. If you are interested to watch the sunset it is advisable to take an afternoon trip to this place. Remains of trees uprooted during Tsunami in 2004 are still present near the beach. There is no restaurant or food stall available inside the park; however, small hotels are present at the entrance. While traveling to this place sea will be to your left side. On your way you would pass through the Kalapathar, a trail of black rocks and beach. Stop here to take some pictures and proceed to Chidia Tapu.
Journey Details -
Guests will be picked-up from their hotel /accommodation by 9:30 AM. Following the journey, guests will be dropped back to their hotel or to an alternate location if required.
The trip begins at chatham where you board a vehicle ferry that takes you to Bambooflat. We then drive around 15 Kilometres through the coast and later through the curvy mountain roads to reach Mount Harriet. View the 20 Rupee Note site, overlook North Bay Island and Ross Island from Mount Harriet. You can even trek for some time around Mount Harriet. Later after completion come back through the same route. Have your lunch, rest and refresh. Later we travel to Chidiatapu. The coastal drive to chidiatapu is amazing. You may take pit stops to capture some pictures or to enjoy the scenic views. Enjoy a mesmerizing sunset at Chidiatapu before returning back to hotel to relax.
Trip includes all transfers, pick up and drop to the hotel, entry tickets and boat ride tickets. All travel in personal AC Vehicle.
